Qali Nur
Qali Nur is an independent journalist, filmmaker and podcast maker based in the Netherlands. Her work focuses on themes such as migration, environmental issues, conflict, and inequality.
Since 2018, she has been a member of the cross-border investigative team at Lost in Europe, and works across a range of formats — including text, audio, and film — her work has featured in Dutch media outlets such as KRO-NCRV, Argos, OneWorld, and Small Stream Media.
In 2021, she co-directed the documentary Between Mountains and Wars/Između Planina i Ratova, which premiered at the Sarajevo Film Festival. That same year she also directed the short documentary Children at the Border for the journalist collective Lost in Europe.
Her audio documentary My Family in Gaza (2025) was produced for NTR DOCS. Nur’s most recent film Inn a State of Siege (2026) premiered at the International Film Festival of Rotterdam and continues her engagement with contemporary and past political realities.

In the audio documentary ‘My Family in Gaza’, Qali Nur follows 30-year-old Medhat for a year and a half. The Palestinian electrical engineer grew up in a refugee camp in Syria and later in Gaza. In 2014, he lost his home due to a bombing of Gaza by Israel and had to flee Palestine the Israeli violence. Once in the Netherlands, Medhat starts to build a new life. But ever since October 7th, Medhat is consumed by the news coming out of Gaza. How do you continue daily life while your sister, your family, and your people are trying to survive a genocide?
My Family in Gaza is a personal portrait of Medhat and simultaneously tells the larger story of the generations long oppression of Palestinians by Israel.
